Have you ever wondered how ELI keeps an eye on the entire planet all at once? The secret is high above us, with satellites! While orbiting the planet, ELI uses special sensors and cameras on satellites to watch the world’s weather patterns.

While ELI’s primary missions often keep them aboard the space station in low Earth orbit, there are times when duty calls beyond the station’s walls. To maintain the lab's view of the world, ELI must sometimes venture out to service the satellites that monitor our planet.

Whether it’s repairing a faulty camera, swapping out a battery, or performing a upgrade with specialized tools, these "space walks" ensure our eyes in the sky stay sharp and our weather reports are accurate. By maintaining these vital satellites instead of letting them become space junk, ELI helps protect the orbital environment while keeping a steady watch on the weather below.
