I-SPY: African Elephants
I-SPY Elephants: ELI takes a night drive to watch wild elephants in their native habitat.
It was time for a very special mission: a Night Drive to find the magnificent wild African elephants! As the sun set for the day, ELI started the truck and turned on the bright headlights to see the dirt road through the tall grass, driving slowly and carefully.
To be a great nature explorer, ELI knew the two important rules: observe quietly and be patient so as not to disturb the wildlife.
After a short drive to a promising spot near a watering hole, ELI turned off the engine and waited. ELI listened to the night sounds for signs of large animals moving through the grass.
Suddenly, a large shadow moved near the trees. ELI picked up a pair of binoculars to look closely without disturbing the animals. Through the lenses, ELI could see a herd of elephants making their way down to the water for a cool drink.
ELI watched in awe as the intelligent animals used their trunks take water from the watering hole and drink it. By staying quiet, ELI could observe the animals in their natural habitat without disturbing their peaceful evening.
There is always something to discover when we take the time to look and listen!
